The album's overarching theme of history and memory is reflected in the title, which refers to a manuscript that has been erased and written over, leaving traces of the original text.

The opening track, "The Ghosts of Rome," sets the tone for the rest of the album, with its haunting melodies and powerful vocals. From there, the band takes the listener on a journey through time and space, exploring themes of war, love, and loss. Standout tracks include "The Last Crusade," with its driving rhythm and epic guitar solos, and "The Fall of Constantinople," which features a beautiful acoustic intro and some of the album's most emotional lyrics.
